In a significant push to deepen its industrial presence in South Asia, global technology leader ZF Group has inaugurated a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Coimbatore. With an investment of €20 million (approximately ₹192 crore), the facility is strategically aligned with ZF’s vision of “Make in India for India and the World.”
The plant spans over 10,000 square meters and is specifically designed to cater to the construction equipment and railway sectors, two areas witnessing robust growth in demand both domestically and globally. By combining advanced manufacturing technologies with local expertise, ZF aims to transform the Coimbatore unit into a major production and export hub within its international supply chain.
Driving Innovation in Construction and Rail Mobility
The new facility will manufacture Ergopower M transmission systems, a benchmark solution in the construction machinery space. Known for their automatic powershift capabilities, these transmissions offer enhanced performance and deliver up to 15% in fuel savings, making them an ideal fit for high-efficiency construction applications.
Additionally, the plant will produce Multitrac series axles, engineered for demanding heavy-duty operations. These axles are specifically designed to withstand rugged usage and provide reliability across a range of construction equipment.
In the railway segment, ZF is introducing the EcoMet transmission system, a modular gearbox solution that is expected to set new standards in metro rail transport. Designed for flexibility and cost-effectiveness, EcoMet supports various metro configurations while minimizing the need for customized engineering—offering a scalable, efficient solution for growing urban transport demands.
Supporting the ‘Make in India’ Vision
ZF’s investment aligns with the broader national objective of bolstering localized manufacturing and reducing import dependency. By industrializing key products within India, the company aims to deliver world-class technology directly to OEMs in India and abroad, while also boosting employment, skill development, and regional economic growth.
Commenting on the launch, company officials emphasized that the Coimbatore plant is not only a strategic addition to ZF’s global network but also a long-term commitment to manufacturing excellence in the region.
A Hub for Future-Ready Solutions
The facility is expected to play a pivotal role in enabling ZF Group to respond swiftly to regional market demands, strengthen its global competitiveness, and foster innovation at scale. With an increasing emphasis on sustainability, efficiency, and localization, the Coimbatore unit embodies ZF’s future-ready manufacturing strategy.
As infrastructure development and urbanization accelerate across South Asia, ZF’s new facility is well-positioned to deliver technologically advanced solutions that meet evolving industry standards—paving the way for smarter mobility in construction and rail.
